This Week´s Embarrassing Question

QWhat can I do about my stinky feet?
I´m afraid to take my shoes off in front of my girlfriend.

A Dear RB, sweat plus bacteria equals foot odor. If your feet smell particularly bad, it may be due to genetics. For fresher smelling feet try these easy tips:

  • Wash with an antibacterial soap to reduce bacteria and make sure to dry your feet well.
  • Try an antiperspirant with aluminum chloride recommended for underarms. Apply before bed to give it time to plug up your foot´s sweat glands. (In the morning, you´ll walk on it, which can wipe away the active ingredient.)
  • Use a little talc in your shoes to help keep them dry during the day.
  • Make sure your shoes are not too tight and allow your feet to breathe.
  • If all else fails, Botox, yes the same Botox used for facial wrinkles can help for smelly feet. Onabotulinum toxin A blocks the body´s release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that sends signals to sweat glands to produce moisture.
